Cisco Systems, Inc. is the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet. In February 2005 Cisco Systems Ltd UK and Ireland employees voted overwhelmingly to select Cancer Research UK as one of its chosen charities.
Cisco actively encourages individuals to give their time, effort and expertise to support Cancer Research UK. Cisco encourages fundraising through its Matching Gifts Programme effectively doubling donations that their employees make to the cause.
Cancer Research UK is one of only a few select charities in the UK that are approved as one of Cisco UKI's Matching Gifts partners.
Fundraising activities
Fundraising at Cisco Systems takes place across the UK with involvement from employees at all levels. Its employees have taken on several sporting challenges, including a team of 12 completing the Great North Run, and the Healthcare team climbing Snowdon. One employee showed great commitment by running the Edinburgh Marathon and then the London Marathon within a few weeks of each other.
Senior level executives also actively support the Cancer Research UK partnership. One of the most popular activities has seen two Vice Presidents battling it out to be voted Cisco's Christmas No.1 in an online talent competition. The competition raised over £8,000 in one week.
20 Years of Service Programme
To celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2005, Cisco Systems encouraged employees to volunteer in their local community for one day. For each hour volunteered the company donated $17 to charity. Cisco employees volunteered 235,000 hours for more than 175,000 hours which equates to 20 years of service to the global community.
Over 170 Cisco employees volunteered their time to Cancer Research UK raising over £27,000.
Cisco Systems has additional fundraising plans for 2006 and will continue raising significant funds for Cancer Research UK into 2007.
